Quote of the Day

“That’s not up to us to say that doesn’t matter anymore.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is entering the recent linguisti-dance that is, well, the politicization of the Justice Department. I hadn’t realized how ironic this all was until I typed that sentence:  To not prosecute the Bush Administration for criminal wrongdoing in order to secure friendliness toward our legislative agenda is nothing less than “politicizing the Justice Department”—the very same beef against Former Attorney General I-Do-Not-Recall Gonzalez. (Although, PapoWorld acknowledges… …the slight material difference in not prosecuting certain aspects of the past—what could be considered overzealous protection of the homeland—and actively prosecuting democrats to score political points or the deliberate firing of democrats because of an ideological litmus test (don’t get me started on the rampant cronyism in the hiring at the CPA in early Iraq. •excerpt•)

I don’t even feel comfortable with giving the Bush Admin. the benefit of the doubt on ‘protecting us’.  We’re talking about torture here…not about stopping Arabs at Customs.

Anyway…Pelosi may have settled things for us: “That’s not up to us to say that doesn’t matter anymore.”

“I’ll sew ya asshole shut and keep feedin ya, and feedin ya, and feedin ya” (name the rapper)

PS: there’s a megapost on torture coming soon, courtesy of MotherJones, but in the meantime…did you know that Babylon, by David Gray, was used to torture people?!  lol…I know many people who would understand that.  (there is also some very aggressive Eminem, American Pie, Neil Diamond, the Meow Mix Commercial and Tupac)
